Glacier and Climate Fieldwork
Students investigate glacier and climate questions through field sampling, measurements and environmental observations.

Preparing for fieldwork
Wen Xu introduced students to glacier research by sharing expedition experiences. Professors from East China Normal University and other universities then helped them study the basics before fieldwork at Azha Glacier.
Collecting firsthand evidence
Students drilled for ice cores, took measurements and recorded environmental conditions. They used these records to compare Azha Glacier with Laigu Glacier and examine broader climate questions.
Learning on the glacier
Wen Xu led ten students to Azha Glacier. Sampling and measuring on the glacier showed them the care that field research requires and the fragility of the environment they were studying.
